This course is aimed at students who wish to become plants people and to specialise in the use and maintenance of plants. Modules include: Decorative horticulture: amenity horticulture skills including site appraisal, maintenance of gardens and of plants for decorative displays. Landscape ecology: understanding of the ecological processes which influence the composition of plant communities and gain an appreciation of the wildlife amenity value of ecological landscapes. Contract management: knowledge and skills required in the contract management of services or products. Computer aided design: introduces students to the use of computers in the context of garden design. Sustainable development: students will gain an understanding of sustainable issues and the impact of the horticultural industry on the environment and others. Heritage gardening: students will develop an understanding of the principles of historic garden design and the maintenance of heritage gardens

Students will be assessed through Plant identifications, written tests, practical skills, assignments and portfolio building.

Entry Requirements
Students should have Horticulture National Certificate at merit grades or above.
